Scholarship Contest: Does Your Child Know What It Means to Be Smart?
Oxford Learning, one of St. Louis' fastest growing educational resources for kids and teens, is offering scholarship opportunities for area families.
Oxford's owner Sree Naidu, who launched the company last year, says the scholarships are a way to give all children and teens the opportunity to learn how to learn regardless of their family's financial situation. Offering scholarships has been a goal of Sree's since he founded the company.
"Oxford's program is unique in that we help children develop the skills to learn and study effectively," says Sree. “These skills are lifelong, apply to any subject and benefit children of any age, whether they are just starting out in school or preparing for college."
To enter the scholarship competition, students are asked to submit an essay of approximately 400 words that answers the question "What Does it Mean to be Smart?”"
"It's a topic children of all ages can relate to, and being 'smart' means something different at every age," explains Robin Allen, Oxford's Education Director. "Does being smart relate to how much knowledge you’ve acquired? How well you perform in school? In life? We teach kids how to think, solve problems and find answers, and this topic reinforces the ability of all kids to be effective learners."
To enter the scholarship competition, submit the written essay, along with contact information to essay@stlouiskidsmagazine.com. Children of all ages are eligible to enter. Be sure to include your child's name and school, and your name, address and phone number.
Oxford Learning also will be on hand at the Kids Health & Education Expo to talk with parents about helping kids learn how to learn.
Free diagnostic assessments from Oxford Learning (worth $240 each) will be given away as door prizes each hour at the Expo as well, so don’t miss it!
